{"id":387,"date":"2007-03-21T19:33:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-21T19:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimgworld.com\/blog1\/2007\/03\/21\/387\/"},"modified":"2007-03-21T19:33:00","modified_gmt":"2007-03-21T19:33:00","slug":"387","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimgworld.com\/blog1\/?p=387","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before I get back to my usual mental machinations, I need to congratulate my long-time correspondent from Illinois, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Mary S.<\/span>, on being awarded a doctorate in patristic studies from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orthodoxtheology.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">St. Elias School of Orthodox Theology<\/a>.  Mary retired a while back from a 36 year teaching career, at both the high school and college level.  Mary has dual masters\u2019 degrees, but she decided to finally go for the PhD.  After some years of study and a thesis, she\u2019s now a Doctor.  She is also a true eternal student.  Young graduate students jokingly refer to themselves as \u201ceternal students\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/timmiesmith.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here\u2019s another one <\/a>); <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">\u2018like wow,  I\u2019ve been in school so long it seems like forever . . . . .\u2019<\/span>  But after you get past 50 and then 60, it\u2019s no longer a joke.  Some of us finally realize that learning and preserving the mind is quite a noble thing. These are the REAL eternal students.  And Mary is a prime example.  Here\u2019s one of her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theandros.com\/pregnostic.html\" target=\"_blank\">recent articles<\/a> on gnostic influences in John\u2019s Gospel.
