When the moon lights up the clouds in our night skies, the feeling can be even stronger and more profound. I’m not sure if I can explain why. Maybe it’s a reminder of the vastness of space, and how terribly small our planet is in the midst of an unimaginable void. So much nothing out there !!!

The moon shines in a way that almost makes it seem alive, and yet I realize that no humans are involved, no humans are anywhere near the moon (although that may someday change). It’s a totally empty place, absurdly empty. Back in the early 70’s, I remember when the US Apollo moon landing program was well underway, and there were nights when I looked up at the shining moon and realized that someone is actually up there right now. And yea, it didn’t seem as lonely on those nights.

Here’s a few shots of that lonely moon up in the clouds. Enjoy the beauty of it, but also let it remind us to appreciate all of the fellow humans around us here on earth.

[6,5
