{"id":826,"date":"2004-07-09T22:51:00","date_gmt":"2004-07-09T22:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimgworld.com\/blog1\/2004\/07\/09\/826\/"},"modified":"2004-07-09T22:51:00","modified_gmt":"2004-07-09T22:51:00","slug":"826","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimgworld.com\/blog1\/?p=826","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was an article by Tom Carson in the July\/August Atlantic Monthly about <strong>teenagers<\/strong> and <strong>high school<\/strong>.  Carson starts his article with the proposition that high school is the quintessential American experience, our truest common denominator.  He then gives a few examples of how other writers have used high school as a reference point. One of those examples regards politics: \u201chigh school with <strong>power<\/strong>\u201d.  It was his follow-up observation, however, that captured my interest.  Here it is: <em>\u201cand man, could Grover Norquist use a wedgie\u201d<\/em>.  <\/p>\n<p>Well, I\u2019m not all that savvy on politics, so I had to look Mr. Norquist up.  It turns out that he\u2019s a top Republican political strategist, one of those smart guys behind the scenes.  Tax issues and economics appear to be Mr. Norquist\u2019s forte; he is credited as the <strong>genius<\/strong> behind Mr. Bush\u2019s successful effort last year to cut taxes mostly for the rich (and thus swell our national deficit, all for the sake of our wealthiest 1%).  <\/p>\n<p>I found a picture of Mr. Norquist on his foundation\u2019s web site.  Here it is.
