Nostalgia time. Here’s a shot of some Navy guys at the Pearl Harbor air base circa 1945. The war is either over or nearly over, and the mood at Pearl is much lighter than 4 years before. One of these sailors is my dad. I’m not going to say who he is, except that he’s not the guy making the funny face. Thank goodness!
Jim, A lovely picture of your father–whichever one he is. I remember the beginning of WWII which was very solemn; all us kids in Catholic school were ushered into church in mid-day to pray because we were at war.
I also remember the end of WWII. I was then what is called today a ‘tween. (I think I’ve got that right.) I heard a lot of noise outside and wondered what it was all about. I asked my Mom what was going on. She said the people were celebrating because the war had ended. She and I looked out the window and sure enough, people on the block I lived on all had pots and pans, spoons (metal or wooden, didn’t matter) and were banging them all together like a bunch of small children playing in their mother’s kitchen. And what kind of celebration could be better? MCS
